In week 2 we examine several important topics for our HRM practice. The issues related to diversity and multiculturalism and questions about how HRMs can create a synergistic environment while being legally compliant with our labor laws are paramount for us to consider. Refer back to Figure 2.1 in Chapter 2. This week we’ll be focused on and thinking about the issues directly associated with the “SOCIETY” and “LABOR MARKET CHANGES” bubbles. We discussed how as HRMs we need to be hyper-aware of societal changes as well as demographic changes in the overall labor market as we develop and implement our organizational HR Plan policies. And don’t forget, the policies and plans we implement as HRMs affect our Customers and our stake holders! The quote that begins on the bottom of page 3 reads, “This diversity leads to profitability and the ability to better serve customers.” As HRMs our goal is to develop and implement a dynamic HR plan that reflects our society. Doing so results in a successful organization which values employees and clients alike.
